Democrat or Republican: They all talk in code.

They all talk in code. Whether they talk about abortion, indictments or war, it always appears to be code words for the people in the know to alleviate partisan worries. They speak in code so they will not arouse the mass society as Mills wrote that drive the SUVs, coach the little leagues and scream at the gas pump.

When abortion is the issue, privacy, stare decisis, and settled law are the code words. That means Roe isn't going anywhere soon. But don't whisper that in the outlying Ohio and Tennessee counties that voted for the "right" presidential candidate that everyone knew "where he stood on that one". How interesting etymology has become.

When political indictments are discussed, it is said that unity, temporary, partisanship and crazed prosecutor are the words of the day. What about corrupt and typical political behavior being discussed? That is not the lexicon.

When war is discussed, shock and awe, mission accomplished and crusade are used in the code. But when suicide bombers become homicide bombers and OBL and WMD have nothing to do with WAR, perhaps the code words are lost in the morass of ignorance that we call the American Electorate.

When war is peace, and peace is war, then Orwell is right, Barnum is right, Lincoln is wrong and The New Orleans Superdome Tragedy is nothing more than rumors. The reserves coming home are telling quite a different tale than the newspapers and the talk shows.

The truth will set you free, and the tangled web will catch all.

Oil Glut?

In the tradition of the Oil Shortages of the 1970's, there will be plenty of cheaper gas to purchase in the near future. The question is how near the future will be?

After a brief sojourn across the Commonwealth, it can be noted that the Labor Day Travelers were staying at home. Gasoline was unreasonably priced at $3.39 for regular 98 octane. It was $4.00 a gallon in others. People stayed home this weekend and watched Jerry Lewis again. Maybe they wanted to see the New Orleans disaster. It is sad how we love to watch ruin.

When President Carter imposed the national speed limit of 55 miles an hour, it took until 1984 until the summer time price of gas fell to almost 80 cents and in some places I believe it reached into the 60 cent range. Traffic was bliss. Three cheers for Robert Moses.

As the American people will "tank top", buy gasoline on station closing rumors and just frankly won't drive the extra mile, we are assured of an Oil Glut in the very near future. Hybrid Cars, Hydrogen, Ethanol, and maybe even cooking oil will change the motoring habits of millions. The crude will again pump from Iraq. The only problem is that 1 billion Chinese and 1.3 billion Indians need crude just as badly as Americans do.

Oil Glut? My best guess is on the Hydrogen.

Ideal Supreme Court for the United States of America

If John Roberts is nominated and approved as the new Chief Justice of the United States Supreme Court, Attorney General Gonzalez is an excellent political and legal choice as the second judicial replacement to the court. Unfortunately, a very conservative female justice will probably be nominated to take the associate justice position. The new conservative leaning Supreme Court will depend on three points of political reality. First, Will the Senate challenge the President's Nominees as the Republican Presidential Contenders start jockeying for their 2008 position? Second, Will Arlen Specter remain as the Republican Stalwart of the Senate Judiciary Committee. Third, Will the President's sinking poll numbers rebound enough to revitalize his electoral "mandate"?
